Our award-winning flowerbed meadows combine wildflowers and cottage garden favourites. The mixes have been professionally designed to create a wonderful display, whilst maximising diversity for pollinating insects.
Some spaces, such as this patch at our local train station, need a fresh start. It had been a sorry patch of compacted dirt and gravel on top of a weed membrane.
In the first year we sowed an annual seed mix. Since then it has become a focal point and is evolving with volunteers adding more perennials, bulbs and ornamental grasses each year.
The majority of our flower meadow seed mixtures include both annual and perennial flowers. Each combination is designed to create drifts of stunning meadowy blooms, flowering in succession over several months and seasons to provide a long and reliable food source for pollinators. To encourage wildlife gardening groups, we have a special offer on our Bee Heaven seed mix to be sown in spring 2025 - meaning you can sow a community flower meadow for as little as 10p per square metre!
Flowerbed meadows, as the name suggests, need to be sown into a cleared bed of soil. This may entail removing turf (small areas can be tackled with a spade or for larger areas we recommend hiring a turf-stripper). Or you could repurpose an existing flower or vegetable bed, clearing it of weeds and their roots and giving it a light digging over.
