This October, every household and every community group in Freshford (our village) and neighbouring Limpley Stoke, is invited to take part in a massive planting of 22,000 bulbs thanks to a grant from Great Western Railway.
The funding will be used to fund the ‘Rivers of Gold’ BIG GWR BULB PLANT event.
The truly wild Native daffodil bulbs (Narcissus pseudonarcissus lobularis) will be used extensively at Freshford Station, and for landscaping in hedgerows, woodland areas and verges.
Bulbs will be planted from Freshford station, along three main routes:
1) to the Galleries, community shop and cafe (which is also right by the bus stop).
2) to Limpley Stoke, passing the old railway station and community owned Hop Pole pub, before joining with the canal towpath.
3) from Freshford Station to Avoncliffe where it joins the canal towpath for onward walking/cycling to Bradford-on-Avon), the Cross Guns pub and Avoncliffe railway station.
Individuals and groups will be encouraged to take part. Participants will include GWR Station volunteers, Friends of Freshford, Nature Chain, Schools, Horticultural Societies and individual households.
